Olympic Market Back to Business

Phnom Penh: After two weeks of closure due to Covid-19 cases detected in the market, Phnom Penh Governor Mr. Khoung Sreng has permitted the reopening of Olympic Market Business Center on Saturday. In the order released by the governor, he says that safety measures should be in place all the time to avoid further cases of Covid-19 in the market among vendors and customers.

The market located in Sangkat Olympic, Khan Boeung Keng Kang in the capital was ordered to close down from 3 July until 16 July following the BKK1 market closure. Mr. Sreng orders that all security personnel, workers and other staff in the market should be tested before going back and provide negative result to make sure no one will spread the virus in the market again. He has also said that the number of customers entering the market should be limited to avoid congestion and to give way to adequate ventilation inside the market.

Phnom Penh governor has again urged everyone to please wear mask. In case of violation, a fine of at least $50 will be imposed. The entry/exit of the market are also made sure to have thermometers in place as well as disinfectant or alcohol.

People are advised to avoid eating in the market. Kheng says that buyers should just pack the food and bring it home because it is impossible to eat with mask and in that case, there is a big chance of spreading the virus while eating. If anyone has symptoms of Covid-19, he says that they should contact 115 or the health department in the capital of immediate action. Phnom Penh governor has warned that if a person violates the guidelines provided, an administrative and legal action will be immediately taken.
